This newly married couple purchased their first home in Glen Carbon, IL knowing they were going to do immediate remodeling. The home provided ample space but the design of the kitchen and flooring finishes throughout the first floor were not to their tastes. Working with the homeowners, Padgett Building came up with a design that removed the walls of the sun room and removed the wall between the kitchen and the family room. The new design provides an open floor plan where the kitchen, hearth room, dining room, and family room all flow together as one. A 13’ island in the kitchen provides plenty of space to entertain friends and family while simultaneously the master chef can make dinner on the 6 burner gas stove. Two Empire Comfort Systems gas fireplaces were installed: one in the hearth room and one in the wall of the family room. And what happened to the ugly flooring? It was replaced by ¾” raw oak flooring that was custom finished on the job.
